PhotomatixCL FAQ

When are my monthly merge credits refreshed?

Your HDR merge credits refresh once a month.

The day of the month when your credits are refreshed is the first time you run PhotomatixCL after your subscription renewal date. If you run PhotomatixCL continuously, then this is the day of your subscription renewal date.

For example, if you purchased your subscription license on August 12th, your monthly HDR merge count will refresh the first time you run PhotomatixCL after September 12th. If you bought it on August 31st, the refresh will happen the first time you run PhotomatixCL on or after October 1st.

How do I change the merge quantity of my subscription?

You can change the amount of monthly merges in your subscription by purchasing a new subscription for the new amount and cancelling the old one.

You will then get a new license key. You will be allocated the new number of merges once you load the license key using the -ll <YourLicenseKey> command.

Can I keep the same license key after updating my monthly merge quantity?

When you update the HDR merge credits in your subscription, you will get a new license key, as detailed above. However, it is still possible to keep your original license key after the HDR merge quantity change if this is more convenient for you.

Contact us at support@hdrsoft.com to let us know that you want to keep your license key after changing the HDR merge quantity in your subscription. We will then cancel your old subscription and arrange that the updated merge amount in the new subscription you will purchase takes effect without having to register PhotomatixCL with a new license key.

Do I need to be connected to the Internet all the time to run PhotomatixCL?

No, you only need to be connected to the Internet once a month when using PhotomatixCL as part of a monthly subscription.

PhotomatixCL will attempt to contact the HDRsoft license server at the time of your license renewal date (or the first time you run PhotomatixCL after your license renewal date if you don't run PhotomatixCL every day).

If PhotomatixCL cannot contact the license server at that time, it will continue to work until it is able to contact the license server.

If you've run out of your monthly merge credits before PhotomatixCL is able to contact the license server, PhotomatixCL will continue to run, but it will add a watermark to your HDR images.

What host, port and protocol does PhotomatixCL use to contact the license server?

PhotomatixCL sends an HTTP request to the host www.hdrsoft.com on port 80 each month to confirm license details and refresh your number of HDR merge credits.

When I run PhotomatixCL, I get an "Unable to connect to license server" error.

The reason for the error differs depending on the error message:

"Unable to connect to license server. License renewal failed. Please check you are connected to the Internet".

This means PhotomatixCL can't contact the HDRsoft license server. Ensuring your system can connect to the host hdrsoft.com on port 80 should solve the issue.

"Warning: Unable to connect to license server"

This means you have set up a local license server, and PhotomatixCL can't contact the license server host you set in the PHOTOMATIXCL_LICSERVER environment variable.

Ensure you have just the host name for your license server in the PHOTOMATIXCL_LICSERVER variable. It not include the port number and should not be prefixed with anything such as http://.

The host running PhotomatixCL must be able to connect to the license server host on port 46876 each time you run the program.

Can I move my subscription license to another server?

Yes, you can move your license at the end of a billing period for no cost.

Please contact us at support@hdrsoft.com a few days before your server move, and we will generate a replacement license key you can use on the new server.

Alternately, for more flexibility, you can purchase a new subscription, then cancel the old one once the old server is decommissioned.

I tried to load my license and got this error: "Your license key has expired".

When a license key is issued, you have two weeks to load it onto your system. You will get this error if you have waited longer than that, or if you are trying to move your old license key onto a new system after that time.

To get a license key re-issued, please contact our support team, and provide details about the circumstances involved.

Can I use both Pay-as-You-Go credits and a monthly subscription?

You can use both, as long as you use Pay-As-You-Go credits on one system and a monthly subscription on another system.

If you need to temporarily get more HDR merge credits on a system that has a subscription license, please contact us at support@hdrsoft.com to let us know how many more you need and for how long so that we can advise you on the best options.

How do I switch between Pay-As-You-Go credits and a monthly subscription?

Switching from a monthly subscription to Pay-As-You-Go credits

Cancel your subscription and load the license key you will get after purchasing the Pay-As-You-Go credits.

Any remaining merge credits from your subscription will carry over, and the system will use your remaining merges and the Pay-As-You-Go credits. Note that your monthly HDR merge credits refresh will stop once you switch.

Switching from Pay-As-You-Go credits to a monthly subscription

Wait until you've used all your Pay-As-You-Go credits before loading the subscription license. Loading a subscription license will cancel any remaining credits.
